Introduction to the Department

The Department of Sports Rehabilitation at Kwangju Women’s University is a future-oriented department that cultivates exercise specialists who scientifically analyze physical functional problems and support recovery and health through exercise in order to improve the health, physical fitness, and exercise performance of not only athletes but also the general public. Students learn human anatomy, exercise physiology, sports injury assessment, rehabilitation exercise, taping and massage, as well as smart healthcare and AI-based exercise data analysis. Sports rehabilitation plays an important role not only for athletes and the general public but also in health recovery and injury prevention for people with disabilities. After graduation, students can work in various fields, including sports team trainers, sports rehabilitation centers, hospital-based rehabilitation exercise specialists, and health exercise managers. The Department of Sports Rehabilitation at Kwangju Women’s University is an attractive department for students interested in helping people’s health through systematic and scientific exercise.

Course Descriptions

01 Introduction to Sports Rehabilitation

This course teaches the basic theories and practices of rehabilitation for the prevention and recovery of sports injuries. Students understand various sports rehabilitation techniques, including causes and types of injuries, stage-by-stage rehabilitation approaches, exercise therapy, and functional rehabilitation, and cultivate the ability to design effective sports rehabilitation programs.

02 Marine Sports

This course teaches various sports activities conducted in the sea and marine environments through theory and practice. Students understand the basic concepts of marine sports and learn basic techniques such as surfing, yachting, and scuba diving, including marine safety education and first aid.

03 Introduction to Physical Education

This course teaches the overall concepts of physical education and its impact on human life. Students explore the philosophical, scientific, and social foundations of physical education, including the definition and scope of physical education, physical education and health, the concept of sports for all, the history and development of physical education, and differences and related theories between sports and physical education.

04 Sports Sociology

This course explores the relationship between sports and society and analyzes the cultural, political, and economic impacts of sports. Students understand the role of sports as a social phenomenon by studying theories of the relationship between sports and society, sports and gender, racial issues, sports and media, economic effects, sports organizations, and political factors.

05 Sports Marketing

This course deals with marketing strategies, sponsorship, public relations, and brand management in the sports industry. Students learn how to establish effective marketing strategies through the concepts and basic principles of sports marketing, sports product development and brand strategies, sports event and sponsorship management, digital marketing, and sports public relations strategies.

06 Sports Massage and Taping

This course teaches the theory and practice of massage techniques and taping techniques for muscle fatigue recovery and injury prevention. Students cultivate field-centered treatment and rehabilitation support competencies by developing the ability to apply these techniques to various sports situations.

07 Sports Psychology

This course studies psychological factors that affect exercise and sports performance. Students explore psychological skills such as athletes’ psychological characteristics, motivation and goal setting, stress and anxiety regulation techniques, and psychological skills training to enhance motivation, concentration, confidence, and anxiety management.

08 Leisure Sports Industry Theory

This course aims to promote health improvement and quality of life through the theory and practice of various leisure and sports activities. Students cultivate competencies to guide individual and group leisure activities by developing abilities in safety management, exercise prescription, and program planning.

09 Human Anatomy

This course strengthens anatomical expertise necessary for analyzing the causes of sports injuries and applying rehabilitation exercises by systematically understanding the structure and functions of the human body.

10 Major Practical Training 1, 2, 3

These are practice-centered courses that progressively teach students from the basics of sports rehabilitation to advanced and field application abilities. In Major Practical Training 1, students acquire basic practical skills in sports rehabilitation, including physical fitness measurement, functional movement assessment, stretching, and basic exercise instruction methods. In Major Practical Training 2, students deepen their ability to assess musculoskeletal function and apply injury prevention and rehabilitation exercises, including taping, core stabilization exercises, balance training, and resistance exercises. In Major Practical Training 3, students conduct comprehensive field-centered practice, including sports injury assessment, rehabilitation exercise program design, athlete conditioning, and performance enhancement training, thereby cultivating practical performance abilities and field adaptability as sports rehabilitation specialists.

11 Small Equipment Rehabilitation Exercise Practice

Using various small tools such as bands, foam rollers, and gym balls, students learn rehabilitation exercise techniques for restoring strength, flexibility, and balance. They cultivate practical abilities to design and guide customized exercise programs for each injured area.

12 Manual Rehabilitation Management

This course teaches rehabilitation approaches aimed at restoring musculoskeletal function and relieving pain through hand-based assessment and management techniques. Students learn manual techniques for restoring joint mobility, relaxing muscles, and correcting alignment through PNF stretching and other methods, thereby improving clinical application abilities.

13 Sports Safety Management

This course teaches how to prevent safety accidents that may occur during sports activities and how to prevent injuries and respond to emergency situations. Students learn safety management principles in sports field settings through the causes and prevention of sports injuries, safety management of exercise facilities and equipment, accident response, and emergency measures.

14 Exercise Physiology

This course studies physiological responses and adaptations experienced by the human body during exercise. Students analyze how the muscular, cardiovascular, nervous, and metabolic systems function during exercise performance and recovery, and apply physiological principles when establishing exercise prescriptions and training plans.

15 Functional Anatomy and Mechanics

This course helps students comprehensively understand the anatomical structure of the human body and the principles of movement, analyze physical functions, and learn efficient movement and injury prevention strategies based on the interaction of muscles and joints and the mechanical characteristics of force and movement.

16 Physical Fitness Management for Snow Sports

This course teaches physical fitness management methods to improve strength, endurance, balance, and coordination needed for snow sports such as skiing and snowboarding. Students design training programs suited to environmental characteristics and the demands of each sport, and acquire injury prevention and performance enhancement strategies.

17 AI Convergence Health and Fitness Assessment

This course scientifically analyzes and evaluates individuals’ health and physical fitness using AI-based digital technologies. Students measure health and fitness elements such as body composition, cardiopulmonary endurance, strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, posture, and movement analysis, and evaluate exercise performance and health status using AI-based data analysis systems and digital healthcare equipment. Students also cultivate the ability to design customized exercise prescriptions and health management programs based on measurement data, strengthening practical competencies applicable to sports rehabilitation and healthcare field settings.

18 AI Convergence Personal Training Practice

This course combines AI-based analysis technology with exercise prescription to design and apply individualized training programs. Students cultivate practical competencies to evaluate and guide exercise effects using data such as body composition and movement analysis.

19 Exercise Prescription Theory

This course evaluates individuals’ physical fitness and health status and teaches methods for designing exercise programs accordingly. Students understand the concept and necessity of exercise prescription through exercise type and exercise volume setting, exercise program design and application, and exercise prescription for special populations, including older adults and patients.

20 Rescue and First Aid

This course cultivates the ability to respond quickly and accurately to emergency situations that may occur in sports field settings. Students learn basic first aid concepts, response methods for different emergency situations, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, CPR, use of automated external defibrillators, AED, first aid for sports injuries such as fractures, sprains, and muscle cramps, and responses to environmental factors such as shock, heatstroke, and dehydration.

21 Sports Ethics

This course studies ethical issues in sports and concepts such as sportsmanship, doping, and fairness. Students learn to resolve ethical dilemmas in sports environments through analysis of sports ethics concepts and cases, doping and anti-doping policies, sports ethics norms, and legal issues.

22 Pathophysiology

This course studies pathological changes and physiological responses in the body and analyzes the relationship between disease and exercise. Through learning pathophysiological changes by body system and metabolic diseases and exercise, students understand the relationship between disease and exercise and learn exercise prescription for patients with chronic diseases.

23 Pilates 1, 2

Based on basic movements and breathing principles, this course promotes core stability, flexibility, and muscular endurance, and helps students acquire proper postural alignment and basic exercise performance abilities. Students cultivate the ability to understand and apply the basic principles of Pilates.

24 AI Convergence Exercise Injury Assessment and Rehabilitation

Using AI-based analysis technology, this course evaluates the causes of exercise injuries and establishes scientific rehabilitation strategies. Through data-based functional assessment and customized exercise prescription, students cultivate practical abilities for injury recovery and prevention of recurrence.

25 Summer Sports Injury Management Practice

This course helps students understand the characteristics and mechanisms of major injuries that occur in summer sports and learn field-centered assessment and treatment methods. Through first aid, taping, and rehabilitation exercise application, students cultivate practical abilities for injury prevention and performance recovery.

26 Field Practice 1

Through practical experience at institutions related to sports rehabilitation and health management, students develop the ability to apply theory to the field, cultivate basic job performance and field adaptability, and develop professional attitudes and responsibility.

27 Electrocardiogram and Exercise Stress Testing

This course teaches the principles and interpretation methods of electrocardiogram, ECG, measurement and the theory and practice of exercise stress testing, which evaluates cardiovascular responses during exercise. Students cultivate practical abilities to perform exercise prescription and risk factor management through cardiovascular function assessment.

28 Sports Nutrition

This course helps students understand energy metabolism and the role of nutrients required for exercise performance and recovery, and learn scientific dietary strategies. Students cultivate the ability to design nutrition prescriptions suited to individual exercise goals and conditions, thereby promoting performance improvement and health enhancement.

29 Sports for People with Disabilities

This course teaches sports activities, competition operation, and the concept of rehabilitation physical education for people with disabilities. Through sports events and rules for people with disabilities, rehabilitation physical education, and adaptive sports, students understand sports programs by disability type and learn methods for instructing sports for people with disabilities.

30 AI Convergence Athlete Conditioning Practice

Using AI-based data analysis, this course comprehensively evaluates athletes’ physical fitness, fatigue, and recovery status and establishes optimal conditioning strategies. Students cultivate practical competencies to simultaneously achieve performance improvement and injury prevention by designing and applying customized training and recovery programs.

31 Outdoor Sports

This course studies the theory and practice of physical education and sports education. Students learn how to design effective teaching methods and learning environments through the history and philosophy of physical education, sports teaching methods and lesson design, assessment methods, and achievement analysis.

32 Pilates 2

Based on the basic movements acquired in Pilates 1, students learn advanced movements and applied programs, promote body alignment and core stability, and cultivate customized exercise instruction abilities and rehabilitation application competencies suited to individual body types and functional levels.

33 AI Convergence Clinical Exercise Practice

Using AI-based analysis technology, this course evaluates patients’ functional status and applies scientific exercise interventions. Students cultivate practical competencies to maximize rehabilitation effects by designing and operating individualized exercise programs based on clinical data.

34 Field Practice 2

Through advanced practical experience, students improve professional job performance abilities in sports rehabilitation and health management field settings. They strengthen field problem-solving abilities and program operation competencies, and cultivate practical competencies and responsibility as professionals.

35 Aging and Health

This course helps students understand physical and physiological changes and health problems associated with aging. Based on this understanding, students learn strategies for health promotion and functional maintenance, and cultivate the ability to design exercise, nutrition, and lifestyle management programs suited to the characteristics of older adults.

36 AI Convergence Research Methodology

This course helps students understand AI-based data analysis and scientific research design methods and develop the ability to apply them to the fields of sports and rehabilitation. Through the processes of setting research problems, collecting and analyzing data, and interpreting results, students cultivate competencies for conducting empirical research.

37 AI Convergence Professional Fitness Assessment

Using AI-based analysis technology, this course precisely evaluates various physical fitness elements such as strength, endurance, flexibility, and coordination. Through data-based interpretation, students cultivate professional competencies to design individualized exercise prescriptions and promote performance improvement and health enhancement.

38 Capstone Design 1

Based on major knowledge, students plan and design projects to identify and solve real problems. Through team-based collaboration, they cultivate problem-solving abilities, creative thinking, and practical application competencies.

39 AI Convergence Comprehensive Exercise Program Design and Management 1

Using AI-based data analysis, this course comprehensively designs exercise programs suited to the characteristics of individuals and groups, and integratively manages the entire process of evaluation, planning, application, and feedback. Students cultivate scientific and systematic exercise instruction competencies.

40 Field Practice 3

Through advanced practical experience, students deepen professional job performance abilities in sports rehabilitation and health management field settings. They strengthen independent work performance and problem-solving competencies and grow into talents with field-centered professionalism and leadership.

41 Exercise Rehabilitation Case Studies

This course analyzes various rehabilitation cases from clinical and sports field settings, helping students comprehensively understand injury causes, assessment, and intervention processes. Students cultivate problem-solving abilities based on actual cases and competencies for designing customized rehabilitation programs.

42 Sports Pedagogy

This course studies the theory and practice of physical education and sports education. Students learn how to design effective teaching methods and learning environments through the history and philosophy of physical education, sports teaching methods and lesson design, assessment methods, and achievement analysis.

43 Capstone Design 2

Students actually implement and complete the projects planned in Capstone Design 1, produce problem-solving outcomes, and strengthen practical application abilities and presentation and reporting competencies through result analysis and evaluation.

44 AI Convergence Comprehensive Exercise Program Design and Management 2

Using AI-based data analysis, this course advances exercise programs and carries out actual application and performance evaluation. Through analysis of program effectiveness and continuous feedback, students cultivate professional competencies to design and manage optimal exercise prescriptions.

45 Winter Sports Injury Management Practice

This course helps students understand the characteristics and mechanisms of major injuries that occur in winter sports and learn field-centered assessment and treatment methods. Through first aid, taping, and rehabilitation exercise application, students cultivate practical abilities for injury prevention and performance recovery.
