Educational Goals
The specific educational goals for achieving the educational purpose of the Department of Interior Architecture Design at Kwangju Women’s University are as follows.
- To help students acquire various interior space design processes, including residential, office, commercial, and exhibition spaces, in order to develop the qualities and competencies required of professional interior designers.
- To help students acquire advanced knowledge in various areas of interior design, including materials, colors, furniture, and lighting, in order to cultivate self-directed problem-solving abilities and creative thinking competencies through comprehensive thinking.
- To cultivate sharing and community awareness so that students can contribute to local community development by utilizing their professional knowledge and competencies.
- To cultivate practical field senses in interior design by equipping students with theoretical knowledge of interior design, design practice skills, and computer skills. In other words, the department aims to cultivate professional spatial designers with integrated thinking.
Course Descriptions

Basic Formative Design
As a basic course for studying interior design, this course cultivates spatial understanding and spatial sensibility. Students study theories by examining overseas and domestic cases related to architectural forms and spatial composition, and carry out formative practice.

Basic Interior Drafting
As a basic course for conducting interior space design, this course teaches basic drafting symbols and basic drawing work. Through this, students develop spatial communication abilities.

Introduction to Interior Design
This course helps students understand the principles and elements of interior design and establish an overall understanding and theoretical foundation in the field of interior design through practical theoretical learning necessary for planning each area of interior design.

Digital Spatial Formative Design
As an advanced course in the spatial formative language acquired in Basic Formative Design, this course helps students practice methodologies for expressing their own spatial intentions through spatial formative practice. Through repeated learning, students understand the principles of three-dimensional spatial composition. Using CAD, SketchUp, Photoshop, and other tools for digital design, students implement the expressive abilities of existing formative design courses through digital tools.

Interior Architecture Drafting
As a basic course for conducting interior design, this course helps students become familiar with basic drafting symbols and cultivate the ability to freely understand space through drawings. Students learn how to create basic drawings, including floor plans, elevations, sections, ceiling plans, and perspectives.

Interior Design
This course helps students understand the principles and elements of interior design and learn practical applications necessary for planning each area of interior design, thereby providing an overall understanding of the field of interior design and basic materials for interior design practice.

CAD 1
This course uses computers to digitize drawing abilities acquired through basic drafting and other courses. Specifically, students acquire basic competencies necessary for drawing work through basic AutoCAD commands and related skills.

Color Studies
This course helps students recognize basic theories of color design and color effects in interior spaces, analyze colors in various interior architectural environments, and learn methodologies for independently establishing color environment plans.

Design Studio 1
As a project-based course that cultivates the ability to strategically select and proceed with various spatial design methodologies, this course helps students develop the ability to complete projects.

Furniture Design
By learning the history and design methods of furniture design, students clearly understand the design characteristics of modern furniture and explore future directions for furniture design. Students understand specific production processes and gain practical experience through field practice.

Ergonomics
Students understand basic human conditions and further understand various experiences and psychological situations that humans feel in space. Through this, students learn spatial design methodologies that can design human sensibility.

Design Studio 2
This course carries out projects of a higher level of difficulty than Design Studio 1. It is a project-based course that cultivates the ability to strategically select and proceed with various spatial design methodologies.

CAD 2
This course helps students acquire methods for using various software programs, including CAD, MAX, SketchUp, Photoshop, and Illustrator, in order to learn a 2D-centered digital-based design process and cultivate expressive abilities.

Interior Space Materials
This course teaches the characteristics of materials used indoors and outdoors and the construction methods for each material. Students learn how to specifically apply each material to interior design through literature review and field investigation.

Interior Environment and Facilities
This course helps students understand and learn general matters related to architectural environments. Students establish various environmental conditions required in architectural planning, including building structure, environmental facilities, building laws and regulations, and building construction.

Construction Document Management
This course helps students experience and consider the preparation of construction documents at a level that enables practical work based on design results, thereby cultivating field adaptability.

Design Studio 3
This course provides theoretical learning on planning concepts and design methods for commercial space interiors, such as restaurants, food service spaces, and department stores. Students carry out actual commercial space interior projects as assignments.

Display
This course teaches exhibition design strategies for effectively conveying product images and maximizing product effects, and applies them to actual exhibition design. Students study various exhibition spaces, ranging from retail stores to department stores, museums, and showrooms.

Digital Design 1
This course helps students acquire methods for using various software programs to learn a 3D-centered digital design process, including SketchUp and MAX, and cultivate expressive abilities.

Interior Structure and Laws
Through understanding the entire process by which buildings and interior designs are actually constructed, this course helps students understand the basic structures of interior architecture and legal systems required in the field.

Construction Document Practice
This course helps students understand, study, and practice methods for preparing construction documents, thereby developing communication abilities required in the field.

History of Spatial Design
This course historically examines various styles of Western interior spaces. Students explore the applicability of historical styles to contemporary spaces.

This course helps students establish interior design strategies for public cultural facilities and carry out projects in which they seek direct and active solutions to project requirements and develop their own designs.

Digital Design 2
This course is an advanced-level subject that deepens students’ ability to use various digital-based programs that express 2D and 3D according to design intentions.

Interior Construction and Estimation
This course explores methods for handling various problems that arise in actual field practice. Students learn process management, including related laws and regulations required at construction sites, construction, specifications, and estimate preparation.

Through experience in preparing and expressing various construction design documents, students can enhance their understanding of construction design and improve their major competencies.

3D Digital Design 1
This course deepens students’ ability to use various digital-based programs that express 3D according to design intentions, allowing them to express freely and learn applications. Students learn the basics of Twinmotion, a VR architectural design visualization program.

Interior Architecture Seminar
This course helps students expand their individual design abilities through research and analysis of recently planned or constructed cases in the field of interior architecture.

Graduation Project Studio
Using the major knowledge acquired in the major curriculum, students select topics according to social needs and carry out individual projects.

This course helps students learn professional knowledge required in interior remodeling field settings and carry out practical projects.

3D Digital Design 2
Based on the skills acquired in 3D Digital Design, this course allows students to carry out projects equivalent to practical projects so that they can independently and strategically create solutions to problems that may arise in real situations. Students conduct advanced learning of Twinmotion, a VR architectural design visualization program.

Capstone Design
As an advanced major course, this course trains students in the ability to practically propose final design outcomes and manage the design process.
