Introduction to the Department

In modern society, the need for sports is increasing due to decreased physical activity and the need to maintain and improve mental and physical health.

In addition, the importance of sports is being highlighted in accordance with changes of the times, such as improvements in modern people’s living standards, expansion of cultural life and welfare, and enhancement of quality of life.

The Department of Sports at Kwangju Women’s University aims to cultivate outstanding glocal female sports talents who contribute to the popularization and expansion of the sports base through systematic and scientific theoretical education and specialized practical training, reflecting these social demands and changes of the times.

Educational Goals / Vision

To cultivate female sports instructors and sports industry professionals equipped with professional knowledge and practical abilities

Course Descriptions

Introduction to Sports Studies

This course provides an overview of all areas of sports studies and helps students understand sports broadly. It supports understanding of sports and discusses sports and the economy, as well as the future of sports.

Sports Ethics

In order to achieve good results in sports competitions and create a healthy sports culture that everyone can enjoy together, participants must follow rules and demonstrate teamwork based on sincere and courteous attitudes. This course discusses the duties and principles that should be observed in sports.

Marine Sports

This course covers overall activities carried out in water, including organized competitive activities using relatively complex physical functions or active physical exercise motivated by individuals in marine environments, as well as unorganized physical activities.

Introduction to Sports and Leisure Studies

In modern society, sports have become an essential element of human life rather than an option, and people’s desire for sports continues to grow. This course studies and researches leisure sports suited to such social environments.

Theory of Sports for All

This course studies physical activities for all members of society, which are social movements voluntarily participated in to promote health and welfare and make good use of leisure time. It also explores methods for pursuing not only physical health but also mental health.

Winter Sports

Sports mainly enjoyed in winter, such as skiing, skating, and snowboarding.

Sports Sociology

This course studies the field of sports in which various sociocultural structures, patterns, organizations, or groups participate together.

Summer Sports

Sports mainly enjoyed in summer, such as swimming, water skiing, and scuba diving.

Pilates

Pilates is a physical training exercise centered on repeated movements. It focuses on consciously controlling the body and helps develop balanced muscles through accurate movements.

Sports Psychology

This course scientifically studies and learns human behavior and mental processes in sports situations.

Sports Massage

This refers to rubbing, tapping, and kneading tense muscles by hand to relax them, improve contractile strength, relieve fatigue, and promote the smooth flow of blood and lymph.

Understanding Winter Sports

Sports enjoyed in winter.

Major Practical Training 2

Practice by sport.

Sports Management

This course studies and learns overall contents of sports management, including sports market analysis, sports marketing sponsorship, public relations, financial management, and personnel management.

Exercise Mechanics

This course scientifically studies and learns human body movements that occur through sports activities.

Understanding Summer Sports

Sports mainly enjoyed in summer.

Major Practical Training 3

Practice by sport.

Sports Massage and Taping

Students understand the human body and learn to perform sports massage and sports taping for each body part.

Sports Nutrition

This course studies sports by applying nutritional principles to improve athletes’ performance.

Sports English

Students can learn terms used in sports in English.

Sports Coaching Theory

This course helps students learn how leaders can effectively coach athletes in sports field settings.

Field Sports 1

Exercises or games conducted outdoors.

Training Methodology

Through systematic physical strengthening training, students can improve all athletic abilities, including physical fitness and skills.

Health Education Theory

This course helps students learn how people can maintain their health through their own actions and efforts.

New Sports

New sports are new forms of sports created by simplifying the rules and equipment of existing sports events so that people can easily enjoy games.
